Exxon Mobile announced on October 27, 2005 quarterly revenue of over $100 billion, the largest in history for a public company. And with that came the report that third quarter profits reached almost $10 billion.
There is nothing wrong with profit. But it's not just a coincidence that at the same time that Exxon (and other oil companies) were making record-breaking profits, the United States was suffering through one of the most costly natural disasters in our history. When disaster or misfortune is used as a means to increase profits, it's called gouging - like a stick in the eye.
So we will not just complain.
We will use the one weapon that we still hold - our money.
This is not about global warming, pollution, Iraq, religion, George Bush, or any other political agenda. It's purely a response to corporate greed that crosses the line.
The time has come to do something...
We will not buy fuel from Exxon Mobile, until they contribute their $2.64 billion windfall* to the Red Cross Katrina Relief effort.
